Saratoga
We purchased this
property in 1998 as a remodel to resell. It is a quad level style home built in
the early 60's. It features hardwood floors, 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms,
Family room with wood-burning fireplace, formal living room, large eat in
kitchen and an unfinished basement. It also has a 2 car attached garage and sits
on an extra large lot in an older subdivision. This home had experienced many
years of deferred maintenance. In this project we renovated the kitchen,
bathrooms, created a second family room and replaced all interior doors. All
walls, ceilings and trim were repainted.
What was done.
-
Kitchen changes:
We redesign the kitchen from an L shaped into a U shaped design thus
creating a dining area. The exterior sliding door was replaced with french
doors and the floor covering was replaced with oak parquet, stained a
cinnamon color. The kitchen cabinets were reused with an addition of 2 new
base cabinets. Doors and drawer fronts were duplicated to match the
existing ones.
-
Bathroom changes:
Main, we replaced the vanity, sink top, and hardware. Installed a white
marble floor. Second bathroom, we relocated the washer and dryer to the
basement. Installed new ceramic tile floor, cherry vanity, sink top, new
shower stall, hardware and lighting.
-
Whole house
changes: All interior doors were replaced with six panel colonial style. The
closet doors were of metal and spanned from floor to ceiling. The openings
were lowered and the doors were replaced with six panel bi-folds to match
all others. Carpets were removed from upper living areas now exposing
existing oak hardwood floors.
-
The basement was
one large space. We divided it into 2 rooms, storage and laundry with the
remaining space for a game room or second family room.
-
Exterior: The
original landscaping was overgrown and out of control, hiding the front of
the house, causing damage to the front walkway and hampering access to the
garage. The driveway entrance was almost completely blocked. We removed all
bushes and the walkway. New and larger concrete walkway was installed.
