Pickwick Place
This ranch style house built in 1952 had many problems that had accumulated over the years. The entry “room” was tilting away from the house, the roof was slumping, ceiling joists in the living room had visibly sagged, all ceilings were less than eight feet tall, and the bedrooms were small.
What was done
We decided the roof had to go. We raised the ceiling to fourteen feet in the newly created “great room”, and used scissor trusses over the kitchen, master bedroom suite and new entry area. By doing this we were able to create an open floor plan and a stunning “Great Room” with walls of windows facing south and east. We lowered the walls around the stair case to the family room to give visibility of all public areas. The effect was dramatic, changing the house from a 50’s ranch to a “classic” styled home with everything new. We also added a two and a half car garage on the west end of the house turned ninety degrees to the street. Because the roof line was changed we had to raise the chimney almost ten feet and since everything was open all the plumbing, electrical, cable tv and computer networking was upgraded.
We sanded the existing oak floors and added cherry flooring in the kitchen area and extended hall from the garage. Our own custom cherry and walnut cabinets with granite counters and stainless steel appliances complete the new modern Kitchen. Limestone wall caps reflect the limestone fireplace. All new cherry veneer interior doors, a mahogany veneer Entry door with sidelight and natural finished hardwood trim continue the warmth of the hardwood floors. Even the finished family room has wood paneling and natural hardwood trim.
This is a thoroughly modern house now with a new Entry, new roof, new ceilings, new insulation, new utilities, new windows, new garage and an open, warm floor plan, perfect for entertaining.
