West Third Street
We did this project for the
new owners. What they wanted was the new attic space above the kitchen converted
into a master bedroom suite. They also wanted the kitchen up-graded with new
flooring and re-arrangement of the cabinets for a dishwasher and vented range
hood.
What was done
- We
began in the attic, reinforcing framing, building knee walls, running
electric, creating a space and platform for new central heating and
air-conditioning system and a new large window in the gable end. Rafters
were furred out to allow for more insulation, and all exterior walls and
rafters were insulated.
- Then we created a
master
bedroom with interior walls for a walk-in closet and also a full bathroom. After
drywall, the bathroom floor was tiled, the shower walls tiled insetting mexican
tile accents, and a built-in cabinet was set into the wall. Pre-finished cherry
floors were laid throughout, including the stairs and treads and risers. With
matching trim in place, the new master bedroom was complete.
- Downstairs, we
re-arranged existing kitchen cabinets for placement of a new dishwasher, adding
a new wall cabinet above the range for a new vented range hood. We then
installed new counter tops, sink and faucet. For the floors we installed new
cherry pre-finished flooring throughout this area including a small study just
off the kitchen. We sanded and refinished the oak flooring in the original portion of the house which
was, old dining room, living room and study.
- Later, in 2007, we
updated the common bath with a new tile floor, a granite vanity top and a
Walt Schmidt hand made sink.
